“Intergalactic business, trust me. ❌⚠️🔵✅“
Have you ever felt a strong connection to a song, in particular the lyrics – maybe it was the overall message that resonated? Or perhaps a section of it was just fire, it made you laugh or worded your views better than you could? Whatever the reason for it becoming your new favourite song to replay time and time again, something is clearly resonating whether you recognise that consciously or not.
What if I told you that you could use music to manage your mental health AND heal yourself through regular use of lyrics in art (this would be a therapeutic art method)…I also consider this to be a form of art magic.
Get a notepad and pen, stick on some music and write down lyrics that you connect with (resonate with). Soon you’ll begin to recognise what exactly you’re resonating with and can begin deciding which lyrics to use in your therapeutic art! Recognising what you’re resonating with is like the first step towards healing, it’s similar to the saying ‘gotta name it to tame it’ and by recognising what you’re resonating with IS kind of naming the experience, bringing awareness to the theme(s) of what’s going on in your subconscious that eventually translates to your conscious. Or you may be consciously aware from the get go but you now have accurate words to express the emotion(s). This awareness of whatever you’re resonating with, allows for you to tame the experience and transcend it. The taming and transcending part is the creation of art incorporating the lyrics. Extra healing ability if you choose colours you feel like using as this represents your subconscious emotions and releases the emotions in a healthy way.
Intuitively guided colours, paired with lyrics and art being created from this starting point, is the secret combination to the healing process. Bonus points if you’re using automatic painting and drawing, which further releases your subconscious and with repeated use of these methods, each piece will provide a level of healing to your conscious!

Music is magical it can get us gassed, it can make us feel some kind of way or annoy the shit out of ya if you’ve heard it on an advert too many times. Music can also comfort the sadness but like anything, too much of something can be bad and sad songs can perpetuate the situation with repeated listening, it’s like a bad affirmation and certainly doesn’t do your mindset any good from repeated listening to sad songs. I’m not saying disregard the sad songs altogether as they serve a time and a purpose, that is as valid as upbeat music…but be careful!
Listening to music based on how you feel is therapeutic and some of my best work came from the starting point of lyrics from sad songs. But to improve your mental well-being and maintain mental wellness, it’s important to spice things up…put ur skankinn shoes on (get ya sen ready to dance) an get groovin to tunes, find beats that make you feel good and watch your mental health feel a bit better. Along the way you never know you might find lyrics you aspire to think like and can use them as good affirmations so to speak, training your mental health to be more confident or positive.
A word of warning: If you aim to sell your therapeutic artwork created with use of lyrics, you would need copyright permission from the writer of the lyrics. *This is not meant to replace legal advice on copyright and other associated permissions that may be required or laws in place such as fair use, however this is a good starting point for further research and/or inquiry*
What are you waiting for? You can begin your healing journey TODAY.
Till next time soul crew,
Stevie x
